Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. is the founding pastor of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church a progressive, inner-city church of hundreds of believers founded in 1966. Dr. Susie C. Owens was later ordained as Co-Pastor of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church in 1988.  Under their pastorate, GMCHC developed a number of community outreach programs and initiatives including CATAADA HOUSE, Calvary's Alternative to Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Calvary Healthcare, Project Feed 5000, a food bank, a clothing bank, prison ministry, and several other outreach and social service ministries. The church also operates two outreach facilities, the Family Life Community Center and the Susie Crowder Owens Empowerment Center. With all this in mind, the church has outlined its mission to, “Exalt Christ, Equip Believers, and Embrace the Community,” and has been recognized both in its local community as well as nationally for these Christ centered efforts as they continue on the “Road To Greater”.

In May of 2023, Bishop Owens announced his transition to Founder Pastor and Overseer of Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church along with Dr. Susie C. Owens. With much prayer and after seeking the Lord, Bishop Owens selected Pastor Rodney L. Carter, Jr. as Lead Pastor to continue the vision and mission of Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church.

Both Bishop Owens and Dr. Owens have been blessed to have international preaching ministries which have caused them to travel the world extensively. Together, they also led a powerful reformation of Mount Calvary Holy Church of America, Inc. where they served as Presiding Prelate and International First Lady respectively for nearly 12 years before their retirement. This organization is composed of churches throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and Africa.

They both hold doctoral degrees; Bishop Owens a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, DC and Dr. Susie C. Owens a doctoral degree in African American Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.

They have been married since 1972 and contribute much of their success to their love and dedication to each other, God, and an unwavering yes to His word. They have raised 16 foster sons and daughters who have shared in their home, and they are the natural parents of Alfred Thomas Owens and Kristel Woodhouse. They also have seven grandsons: Nathan, Darian, Nicholas, William, Kaiden, Kiyson, and Karter and one granddaughter Keiress.
